Backing up Phone Settings
If you ever come to a point when you need to hard format your phone or maybe upgrade to a new firmware, I'm sure definately would like to save the current settings of your phone. So this is what you should do;

How to backup phone settings to MMC.

Once the formatting or upgrading is done, you can then restore back the settings by doing;

Hacking the File System of the K750

File System Hacking:
With access to the file system, you can change many system settings, delete predefined content, change menu icons and layout, silence the camera, remove operator logo, and many other cool things.

The techniques below assume you have some understanding of how to access the internal file system of your phone.

1. Remove SMS storage limitation
You can remove the storage limitation so that you can store more than 500 sms�s. This trick works by changing the sms message store to the tpa folder, where the message limitation is not in force

Copy the file /ifs/settings/messaging/pref_store.txt from the phone to the computer, make a backup, then edit it to read /tpa instead of /smsdata, then delete the file from the phone then copy in the new version.

Now you need to create the message store in the /tpa folder. Create the following folder structure in the /tpa folder:

/tpa/messaging
/tpa/messaging/sms
/tpa/messaging/sms/msg
/tpa/messaging/sms/FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
/tpa/messaging/sms/FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF/pending

Restart the phone. You can now stored as many messages as you like ;-)

HOWEVER, in practice you can only store about 1000 messages, beyond and the inbox access becomes painfully slow. In theory you can store 40000 or more.

2. Camera Sounds - Change
The camera sounds depend on the files camerashutter.3gp and camerafocus.3gp. You can change the camera sounds by replacing these files with your own versions. The new sound files must have the same names as the old ones, and be in 3gp format, preferably audio only.

Delete the existing files from /tpa/preset/system/sound and then copy in the new versions.

3. Camera Sounds - Silence

Method 1: Disable Camera Sound completely

The camera sounds come from the files camerashutter.3gp and camerafocus.3gp. If these files don�t exist, the camera is silenced. This means the camera makes no sound even if the phone is not in Silent Mode. You could also delete only camerafocus.3gp for example, if you only want the shutter sound to be heard.
The camera sound files can be deleted from /tpa/preset/system/sound

Method 2: Enable Silent Mode for camera sounds

This method will enable you to disable the camera sounds by turning on Silent Mode. When not in silent mode, camera sounds will operate as normal.
Copy the customize.xml file in /tpa/preset/custom to the computer and make a backup. Open customize.xml in an editor and change the following setting from false to true:
true Save the file then delete the existing customize.xml on the phone and copy in the new version.

Important: You will have to do either a settings or master reset before this trick will take effect. Once you do, you will be able to silence the camera on demand, simply by putting the phone into silent mode.

4. Backup Games and Java Apps

All Java midlets can be backed up by copying the jar and jad files from the phone to your computer.

The jar and jad files at can be found here: /tpa/preset/system/ams

To backup your games, simply copy the jar and jad files in this folder to your computer.
The games will need to be reinstalled if you delete them from the phone and then later want to reinstall. You can�t just copy the old files back into the ams folder. But you can use the old jar and jad files you copied from the phone to reinstall the game (the same way you would install a game normally)

5. Deleting Pre-Installed Content and Games

You cannot delete the pre-installed content from the handset itself, but with access to the internal file system you can delete ANY pre-installed content you want. Simply browse to the folder where the preset content is stored and delete it.

Here are the folder locations for the various pre-installed content:

Notes on Pre-installed content: Sometimes pre-installed content has a shortcut in the user folder pointing to the actual image which is stored in the /tpa/preset/default folder. For example, the shortcut file �El Trumpet.mp3.@� in /tpa/user/audio points to the actual image �El Trumpet.mp3� which is in /tpa/preset/default/audio. Delete both the shortcut and the actual image.

6. Change System sounds

The various system sounds are stored at /tpa/preset/system/sound. If you replace them with your own versions you can change the sound the phone makes for a given system sound. For example you can replace the noisy lowbattery.mid with something more subtle.

Replacement sounds should have the same name and audio format (mid, mp3, amr) as the original, and be about the same length.

To replace a system sound, delete the existing sound from /tpa/preset/system/sound and copy in your own version.

7. Change Startup and Shutdown sounds and Images

Startup and shutdown images and sounds are located in various locations. To change, simple delete the existing file, and copy in your file with the same name. Here are the various names, file sizes, formats and locations:

Boot image: SPLASH in /tpa/preset/system/settings/
This is the 176x220 pixel image displayed at boot up, called the Splash Screen. Can be in gif, bmp or png format. Animation not supported.

Startup Image: STARTUP_IMAGE_SEMC in /tpa/preset/system/settings/
This is the 176x220 pixel image shown after the Splash screen. This image can be chosen by the user in settings/display/start-up screen so you don�t need internal file system access to change this image.

Shutdown Image: SHUTDOWN_IMAGE_SEMC in /tpa/preset/system/settings/
This is the 176x220 pixel image that is shown when the phone is shutting down. Can be in gif, bmp or png format. Animation is supported, but total number of frames should be kept low, and gif should not be set to repeat animation, as this will slow down the shutdown.

Startup Sound: STARTUP_SOUND_SEMC.mid or STARTUP_SOUND_SEMC.mp3 in /tpa/preset/system/settings/
This is the sound that plays when the phone starts up.

Shutdown Sound: SHUTDOWN_SOUND_SEMC.mid or SHUTDOWN_SOUND_SEMC.mp3 in /tpa/preset/system/settings/
This is the sound that plays when the phone is shutting down.

8. Delete SE Web links in user folders

Sony Ericsson or your operator install links at the top of every folder in your phone�s file system to websites with their content. These are pretty useless to most of us, and serve only to clutter up access to our files. The links are stored in two locations within the file system.
Firstly, as xml files in folders within /tpa/preset/system/custmenu. For example the folder GAMES_HOOK_1 might contain an xml file pointing to the operator�s game download page, as well as an image used as the icon.
Secondly, the links are cached in the files cust_menu_data.dat and cust_menu_done_unpacking.dat that sit in /tpa/preset/system/custmenu.

To get rid of an operator link, you need to delete the folder in custmenu for the relevant link, then delete the files cust_menu_data.dat and cust_menu_done_unpacking.dat.

This is actually an “old” tip. I write it here because I have been seeing some people are still using Options / Send menu to send message (SMS, MMS, Email). You can actually just press Call key to send message (no need to select Options /Send menu).

Delete files in your Inbox

When you cant delete a file which is in your inbox the normal way, here is what you can do :

1. Install FExplorer.

2. Launch it and goto the path/folder of your message inbox. If its on the C drive, it would be C:\system\Mail\00001001_S and the same if its on the E.

3. You will notice there are more folders, 0 to9 and a to f. Just go look into all those folders and you should be able to find the file that you want to delete.

4. Once found, click on Options > File > Delete.

5. Exit FExplorer & go to your Inbox to delete the file again.

• Let me take the example of a file named capoeira _.zip.
• At the time of downloading the file, it will ask you if you want to open it or save to PC.
• Select the option to save it to your PC.
• Now rename the file name from capoeira_.zip to capoeira_.jar
• Save the file.
• It will be saved in .jar format now.

2nd Method :
• Lets say you have the file capoeira_ in zip format in your PC.
• Extract the contents to a folder on your PC using WinZip.
• Don’t delete the zip file. You will need it.
• Open the folder.
• Go to "Tools" >> "Folder Options"
• Go to "View" tab
• Uncheck the option "Hide extensions for known file types"
• Save the changes and exit the folder.
• Now you will notice that the the zip file is named capoeira_.zip
• Rename it to capoeira_.jar
• That’s it.

Dont forget to check the "Hide extensions for known file types" after you are done.

3. Reinstall all ur app and game.

Note : Before Reformat Phone Drive

If Phone have this problem , the happening is :
1. File Installer (is BT Message Files) can not be delete, every time u want to delete message show is the file is using/not exist.
2. App can not be install, every time u try to install message show like above.

The Solution

1. Close all app/game that still run.
2. Run app for File Browser (like SeleQ , System Explorer , Profi File etc).
3. Find the installer file (BT Message) on folder ..\system\mail\00001001_S\[Mail Root -> Hex 0 - F]\[BT Message Folder ended by 'F' alpanameurik]\[BT Message File]
Note = Dont forget to set app file setting to show hiden file.
4. After u find it , delete that file (BT Message)

How to play META-inf/class files games ?

Sometimes we come across some games, usualy java games (.jar format) that appear to be .rar files. so when you open these files you find a lot of files and folders like meta files and image files.

these files are part of the java game itself so the .rar file is actually a .jar file.

what you need to do is rename the extension of the .rar file that has all those folders and files to .jar and send it to your phone. this will able you to install the games as a usual java game.

sometimes you don't even have to rename the extension. just tansfer the .rar file to your phone and it will appear as .jar file.

HOW TO INSTALL RAR FILES ON UR MOBILES ?

SEE THE FOLLOWING STEP'S

First of all you must know that all files of the forum except pics are posted on rar or zip format. this is an compressed type of format and you can put normal files like .sis or .jar in a single .rar or .zip file. the files must be in these formats in order to be posted in the forum.

In order to open these files you must have WINRAR or WINZIP installed on your computer. however i advise you to install winrar because its the best one.

The process to get the files you want from the rar file is very simple:
you just open the rar file, right click on the file you want to extract and choose "extract to specified folder". then choose the folder which you want the file to be placed in.

OR you can just drag the file to the folder you want to place the file in your pc but you must have that folder opened on the explorer.
select all files on the rar file and do the same process if there is more then one file on the .rar file.

then all you need to do is select the .sis or .jar file (or any other) and transfer it to your phone through the methode you wish (bluetooth, infrared, cable)

But there is another way to do this. the methode i have shown above is for people who use the pc. for people who use their phone to download files you can also use a special app called ZIPMAN.

TRY THESE STEPS

If you encounter situation like below on your 6600,
1. Blank screen phone unable to reboot.
2. Phone only able to boot-up to "Nokia" word screen.
3. Install some program but not able to uninstall it after that.
4. Error messages such as "Child Installer" keeps popping-up.

Full phone formatting on your 6600!

as steps below

1. Make sure you have at least 3/4 charge of battery power left.

2. Backup your contacts list and personal files to MMC memory card.

3. Switch-off your 6600 phone.

4. Press and hold 3 keys;

Green dial key, * (star key) & no. 3 key and then press the power on/off to swtich on the 6600 phone.

How do you move your messages from Phone memory to MMC now?

Answer :
{ Phone to MMC, the phone prompted you asking if you wanted to copy all the messages in your Phone memory to MMC.
If you ever tried that again then you might have noticed that you are not prompted that option anymore.}

Here is the trick:

• Make sure that Messaging memory is set to Phone Memory (Messages -> Settings -> Other -> Memory -> Phone memory)

• With FExplorer, go to E:\System\Mail and delete the whole dir. Not just the content, the whole dir.

• Go to Messages -> Settings -> Other -> Memory and select "MMC"

• Now you will be prompted if you would like to copy the messages to your "new" location.

This trick should work in cell phones like Nokia 6600.Note that you will lose all messages in your MMC when you delete the dir with FExplorer

If, after the installation, you don't see the FExplorer icon in the main panel of the phone, the .sis file is maybe corrupted, in this case, re-download it from my site and try the installation once more, if the problem persists, try to remove (desinstall) any previous version (with the application manager) before installing the last version (11/11/2005).

• Problems during installation (Nk6630, 6680, ... ) :
If you get some messages during the installation (ex: 'Installation security error. Unable to install', ..); go to the application manager for software installation, and change the 'Application access' to 'on' (instead of 'Signed only').

• Problems when starting (Nk7610, ... ) :
If you get directly some messages when FExplorer starts (ex: 'closed application : fexplorer'), try to de-install any previous version instead of installing the last version as 'update'.

• Running exe files :
With version 1.13, I have introduced, in the directory of FExplorer a console exe file : EXETEST.EXE (you can run it), the purpose is only to test if FExplorer can run EXE files on your phone.

• The settings file :
With version 1.13, I have introduced, a new kind to save the settings but this file can grow (don't know why...), this file is located in the directory of FExplorer (\system\apps\FExplorer), the name is FEgen.ini, if you find this file too big, simply, delete it, it will be re-generated with the current settings.

• Restoring the last path in views :
After leaving the 'about box', 'settings' or the 'editor' view, if FExplorer return to the root directory, check that the 'save last path' in the settings is 'ON', not only this settings is used when leaving FExplorer but i's also used in all the differents 'views' (06/03/2005).

• How to switch between the text/hex viewer :
Simply, go to the settings and choose the viewer type : text or hex (06/05/2005).

Copying Bookmarks from One Phone to Another

Before you begin you require FExplorer on both handsets and also a little knowledge on exactly how to copy and paste files.

• The location path in FExplorer is C:\system\data. Depending on how much stuff is on your phone, you might have to scroll. The file that you are looking for is called "Bookmarks.db".

• Select the file and copy it to your pc or you can transfer it over to the phone that you want to add the bookmarks to via Bluetooth or Infrared.

• Once on the correct phone, open Fexplorer and search for the file in wherever your mail folder is (phone/mmc).

• After finding the "Bookmarks.db" file in your mail folder, copy the file.

• Now go to C:\system\data on your target phone.

• Paste the file there.

•Close FExplorer and go check your bookmarks. It should all be there !

1. To protect your Memory Card using in other phone.
2. If someone stole your Memory Card , he/she will be trouble to used it - except he/she have experience with Phone Hardware Device.

You willdo if you FORGOT your Lock Password

Solution One
---------------
This solution for Phone that have execution file name : unlockMMC.app on folder z:\system\app\
Note :
Not all S60 Phone have this execution file.
To unlock Memory Card :
- Run execution file unlockMMC.app
- Enter new Password you like (example "12345")
- Run app Memory (Phone app Memory Standard)
- Choose To Unlock MMC with that new password

Solution Two
----------------
Every times you set to lock ur Memory Card with lock password , phone made a file to save your password with file name mmcstore - you can find ths file in folder c:\system\.
Note :
To see the file you must set ur file browser app to show hidden files.

To get your Lock Password :

- Send that file into your PC
- Change file extension with .txt
- Open that file using app Notepad
- You will see your lock password
or
(This way not always success)
- Make sure that your phone have app Notepad
- Copy that file into other folder
- Change its attribute not a system file and not a hidden file
- Change its extension with .txt
- Run app Notepad on your Phone
- Open that file
- You will see your lock password

Use app for Break Memory Card Password - this app name MMCPWD

Multimedia Card (MMC) is one of Flash Memory type. MMC uses two technology :
1. ROM Technology for read only application.
2. Flash Technology for read/write application.

MMC for Phone

1. First MMC technology is MMC Standard. Uses 7-pin Standard Multimedia Card. Only has 2 MB/s max transfer data.

2. Next MMC technology is RS-MMC (RS = Reduced Size). The difference between RS-MMC and MMC Standard is, RS-MMC only has 1/2 dimension size than MMC Standard. RS-MMC still uses 7 pin Standard Multimedia Card. Only has 2 MB/s transfer data.

3. Next MMC technology is HS-MMC (HS = High Speed). Using 13 pin Multimedia Card. Have 8 configuration transfer data. And max transfer data is 52 MB/s and the min is 20 MB/s, depends on device support transfer data.

4. Next MMC Technology is Dual Voltage Multimedia Card, which has function host in 1.8 V and 3 V. Note: 1.8 V and 3 V are just the middle operation value. The truth is : For 1.8 V host have range operate 1.65 ~ 1.95 V and for 3 V host have range operate 2.7 ~ 3.6 V.

5. Next MMC Technology is SecureMMC - this multimedia card is used for security requirements of future consumer, business and industrial applications (such as mobile e-commerce, banking and copyright protection)
